Lord of Vengeance Unveiled

Hey Clan!

In Tale of the Clans book three, a question of identity arises. While Rise of Betrayal laid the foundation for our story world, Lord of Vengeance will leave you questioning everything.

So far we’ve covered three weeks of cover reveals. If you missed the earlier posts, you can catch up at Lord of Vengeance Cover Reveal and Rise of Betrayal Unveiled.

Now, for the identity of this week’s cover…

The Setting for Lord of Vengeance

Everything you thought you knew will unravel.

That includes our grounding in the Dal Cais. Hey, it’s not called Tale of the Clans for nothing!

In Lord of Vengeance readers begin to discover the wider world of Viking era Ireland and that means…Vikings!

Well, sort of…

You see, Vikings were essentially pirates. While Vikings were largely responsible for the eventual invasion of Scandinavian warriors who established bases to which immigrants could settle in Ireland, the vast majority of “invaders” were settlers who sought new land to make a better life for themselves.

These Scandinavians eventually made political connections with the native Irish through marriages and as hired mercenaries for opposing clans. By the 10th century, these “Foreigners” (as the Irish called them) were well established in Ireland, and so intermarried that new immigrants from their homeland couldn’t distinguish them from the native Irish.

Lord of Vengeance introduces you in a special way to this mixed race of people and how the prejudices of the day effected their lives.

This novel hearkens back to the year 961 AD, then slings readers forward to the years 967 and 968. We’ll venture to the foreign ports of Luimnech, Corcaigh, and Waterfjord, while dwelling for a time in the vastness of Desmond.

The Cast of Lord of Vengeance

Gideon mac Davan

Denied his inheritance and pitted against his father in an assembly meant to strip him of his nobility, Gideon faces challenges that shake him to the core.

Despite the inestimable odds against him, Gideon refuses to back down. Set to face any opposition that stands between him and a future with his betrothed, Nessa. But will his efforts only pave the path to make him a pawn in the political schemes of his sovereigns?

Nessa Ruadh

After coming out of hiding to face her former overlord,  Nessa believed the worst lay behind her. Yet she is still treated as an outsider with no true place among those she hoped would show her acceptance.

When her past comes back to haunt her at assembly, Nessa is forced into deception once more. Her every effort to protect those she loves, thwarted because of a tapestry of lies woven years before.

Brendan of Desmond

Part Dane, part Irish, Brendan has known division his entire life. A division rooted in his family, born of tragedy.

Vengeance marks Brendan’s steps from its onset and intervening in Gideon’s case proves the perfect means to weave his plans into place. As a noble brehon, established in law, his influence in the affairs of kings is nigh limitless. That is until one meek slave sets a moral stumbling block before him.

Svava

Since the loss of her husband at Luimnech’s sacking, Svava became one of many slaves to the Dal Cais. Pursued by evil mercenaries and shackled to an underhanded brew master, all hope seemed lost until an unlikely savior bought her freedom.

Now, with her path bound to Brendan’s, Svava faces another uncertain fate. One forcing her to confront a past she’d rather forget, and a secret foe bent on destroying them all.

The Theme of Lord of Vengeance

Lord of Vengeance’s theme may seem obvious by the title, but like many things in the book, this is a deception.

You only see part of the picture.

Lord of Vengeance addresses the destructive nature of vengeance and lies. While getting even for wrongs committed and lying to protect others are things we often justify in our human nature, the truth is, both will lead down spiraling paths that harm the innocent along with the guilty.

It’s a slow fade producing a domino affect with horrific results. When we sell ourselves to lies and vengeance, we rob ourselves of truth and humanity.
